Frequently Asked Questions

What are the ESG Excellence Awards?

The ESG Excellence Awards are Bangladesh’s premier recognition programme for organisations demonstrating outstanding commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. Organised jointly by ESG Institute Bangladesh and UN Global Compact Network Bangladesh, the awards recognise real, measurable progress in business, not one off commitments

Who can apply?

Any organisation with operations in Bangladesh is eligible. This includes private sector companies of all sizes, listed and unlisted companies, NGOs and social enterprises, public sector organisations, and subsidiaries of multinational companies applying for their Bangladesh operations.

The awards are open to organisations of all sizes. Judging criteria are assessed in context — a small company demonstrating outstanding commitment is evaluated differently from a large corporation, but both are equally eligible to win.

Is there an application fee?

Yes. The application fee is BDT 15,000 per category submission, plus 15% VAT.

Payment is made online or invoiced to you over email within 1-2 business days during the submission process. Applications are only considered complete once payment has been confirmed. A formal VAT invoice will be issued upon receipt of payment for your accounting and tax purposes.

The application fee is non-refundable regardless of outcome. The fee covers the administrative and judging costs associated with reviewing every application.

Can a company apply for more than one category?

Yes. Organisations may apply for as many categories as are relevant.

Each separate submission requires a separate application fee. There is no limit on the number of categories an organisation may enter.

Who can nominate individuals under Excellence in Championing Climate Action?

Any organisation may nominate an individual in their company from any department of level for Excellence in Championing Climate Action. Self-nomination is also accepted. The nominee must be based in or conducting significant work in the company’s ESG or Sustainability for Bangladesh.

How do I apply?

Applications are submitted through the form you can download at esgawardsbd.com/apply. The form is multi-step and guides you through each section. You can mail the form to us at contact@esgawardsbd.com

Each application requires organisation details, the category being entered, a written description of your initiative, evidence of impact with data and metrics, supporting documents, and answers to the specific judging criteria questions for your chosen category.

The primary submission language is English. Supporting documents available only in Bengali may be submitted alongside if English versions are unavailable.

All application content is strictly confidential. Only members of the judging panel have access to application materials, and judges are required to sign confidentiality agreements.

How are applications assessed?

Each application is assessed against the specific judging criteria published for each category. Judges look for evidence of real measurable outcomes, credibility and verifiability of claims, proportionality of effort relative to the organisation’s size and sector, and honesty — including acknowledgement of challenges.

The awards are judged by an independent panel of sustainability experts — including senior practitioners, academics, investor representatives, and policy specialists. All judges are selected for their expertise and independence. No judge may assess an application from an organisation they are affiliated with.

In some cases, the panel may request clarification from shortlisted applicants. You will be contacted via the email address in your application.

What is the Application Deadline and When will shortlists be announced?

Applications close on 31 July 2026. Shortlisted organisations will be notified by email in August 2026. The full shortlist will be published on the awards website at the same time.

What are the award tiers and can I win multiple Awards in the same year?

Each category has three possible recognition levels. An organization may win multiple awards under different categories on the same year:

  • 🏆 Platinum — the highest-scoring organisation demonstrating exceptional, benchmark-setting performance
  • 🥇 Gold — strong, credible, well-evidenced performance meeting a high standard
  • ⭐ Jury’s Special Award — outstanding performance in a specific context, such as first movers, smaller organisations, or exceptional effort against significant barriers
How can my organisation sponsor the awards?

Sponsorship opportunities are available at multiple levels. To receive a sponsorship prospectus contact us or visit the Sponsor page at esgawardsbd.com.

Sponsorship has no bearing on judging outcomes — all applications are assessed solely on merit by the independent panel.

Can I use the awards logo or badge in my communications?

Shortlisted and winning organisations may use official ESG Excellence Awards digital badges and the Trophy on their website, social media, PR and communications. Usage guidelines will be provided with the badge assets.

What if I find an error in my submitted application?

Contact us immediately with your application reference number. Corrections may be accepted after submission, provided the deadline has not passed.

About This Category

Category 5

Excellence in Implementing Circular Economy

✦  Use more. Waste less. Design smarter.  ✦
About This Category

This category celebrates organisations that have gone beyond waste management to fundamentally rethink how they use materials. Whether by redesigning products to last longer, finding new uses for production by-products, or building take-back schemes that recover value from what would otherwise be discarded, these organisations are helping Bangladesh move toward a more circular model of production and consumption.

Judging Criteria
  • Has the organisation redesigned any product, material, or process specifically to extend the life of materials or reduce virgin input?
  • Are production by-products, offcuts, or surplus materials being recovered, repurposed, or sold — rather than discarded?

  • Has the organisation collaborated with suppliers, customers, or industry peers to create circular material flows beyond its own operations?

✦  Source responsibly. Grow together.  ✦
About This Category

This category celebrates organisations that have taken active responsibility for the people and businesses behind their supply base. This award recognises organisations that treat their suppliers as partners to be developed, not just vendors to be managed.

✦  Transparent. Credible. Decision-useful.  ✦
About This Category

This category celebrates organisations that communicate their sustainability performance with honesty, structure, and genuine usefulness to their stakeholders. Judging Criteria

Excellence in Sustainable Brand Communication

✦  Say what you do. Mean what you say.  ✦
About This Category

This category celebrates organisations that communicate their sustainability story with authenticity, accuracy, and genuine audience engagement. As sustainability claims become more common, the gap between what companies say and what they do is attracting growing scrutiny — from buyers, consumers, and regulators alike. This award honours organisations that get it right: grounding their messaging in real action, being specific about what they have achieved, and avoiding the trap of saying more than they have earned.

Judging Criteria
  • Can the organisation's public sustainability claims be substantiated — is there evidence behind what is being communicated?
  • Are sustainability messages specific and concrete — citing actual performance data, programmes, or outcomes rather than vague commitments?
  • Is there consistency between the organisation's internal ESG performance and its external messaging?
  • How does the organisation engage its audience on sustainability — campaigns, social media, worker communications, buyer presentations, events?
  • Has the organisation's sustainability communication resulted in any measurable engagement — buyer confidence, consumer response, media coverage, or stakeholder recognition?

🥇
Gold
Awarded to organisations with credible, consistent sustainability communications grounded in real performance and reaching their target audiences effectively.

It is not enough to have a good idea: this award recognises organisations that have taken sustainable innovation from concept to reality, proving that doing good and doing well can go hand in hand in the Bangladeshi market.

Recognises a sustainable innovation that is particularly bold, locally relevant, or transformative — especially one that tackles a problem specific to Bangladesh's sustainability context with an approach that others have not tried.

Excellence in ESG Technology & Digital Innovation

✦  Tech-enabled. Impact-driven.  ✦
About This Category

This category celebrates organisations leveraging technology and digital tools to accelerate their ESG performance — whether that means using software to track energy in real time, deploying sensors to monitor water discharge, building platforms to manage supplier compliance, or using data analytics to identify where social risks are hiding in their operations. This award recognises that technology is not just for tech companies — it is a powerful lever for sustainability across every sector.

Judging Criteria
  • What technology or digital tool has the organisation implemented to improve an ESG outcome — and what problem was it designed to solve?
  • Has the technology produced measurable improvement in environmental performance, social management, or governance transparency?
  • Was the technology developed internally, adapted, or adopted from an existing solution — and what made the implementation succeed?
  • Is the solution scalable — could it be applied more broadly within the organisation or adopted by others?
  • Has the technology improved the quality, frequency, or credibility of ESG data available to decision-makers or stakeholders?

Category 20 — Individual Award

Excellence in Championing Climate Action

✦  One voice. Measurable change.  ✦
About This Category

This category celebrates an individual — not an organisation — whose personal leadership, advocacy, and on-the-ground action has made a genuine and lasting contribution to climate action in Bangladesh. They may be a business leader, a grassroots activist, a policy advocate, a researcher, or an educator. What they share is the ability to inspire others and the drive to turn urgency into action — making Bangladesh's climate response stronger than it would have been without them.

Judging Criteria
  • What specific climate initiatives, programmes, or campaigns has this individual led or driven — and what was achieved as a result?
  • Has this individual influenced others — colleagues, organisations, communities, or policymakers — to take stronger action on climate?
  • What is the scale and depth of their impact — how many people, communities, or organisations have been reached or changed by their work?
  • Have they contributed to Bangladesh's climate narrative — through public advocacy, media presence, research, or policy engagement?
  • What makes this individual's contribution stand out — what would not have happened without their specific leadership?
Award Tiers
🏆
Platinum
Awarded to the individual whose climate leadership has produced exceptional, documented impact — a standard-setter for Bangladesh's climate action movement.
🥇
Gold
Awarded to individuals with a strong, consistent track record of climate action showing genuine influence and measurable outcomes across multiple years.
Jury's Special Award
Recognises an individual whose climate contribution may be less visible but no less impactful — community organisers, quiet advocates, and unsung leaders whose work has changed lives or shifted systems without seeking the spotlight.
